On 30 June the design solutions for the Rail Baltica section “Berčiūnai - Joniškėlis” will be presented

To ensure that the general public gets acquainted with the Rail Baltica design proposals for the Panevėžys district, the Spanish engineering company IDOM, who is also responsible for the detailed technical design of the Rail Baltica section “Ramygala - Lithuanian/Latvian state border”, will present the design solutions. Public presentation will take place online on 30 June 2021 at 4 p.m.

Total length of the planned 1435 mm gauge Rail Baltica railway line in Panevėžys district is 14,3 km. To ensure better accessibility and connectivity, 5 intersections with local and state roads using road and rail viaducts are planned. According to the preliminary design, a local road viaduct over the Rail Baltica railway line in Medikonių k., 2 railway viaducts over the regional roads No. 3013 Berčiūnai – Dragonys – Gailiūnai and railway viaduct over the local road Berčiūnai – Rudikėliai, as well as a railway viaduct over the 1520 mm railway tracks and over the state main road No. A9 Panevėžys - Šiauliai are planned.

To ensure compliance with environmental protection principles, animal passage and crossings for smaller animals, incl. amphibians, are planned. Additionally, the entire railway section is going to be fenced to ensure safety and protect the animals from entering the railway area. Where possible, planting trees and shrubs is envisaged.

“We believe that for the infrastructure projects of such scale, creating open dialogue with the citizens is particularly important. For this reason, on a regular basis, we are organising public presentations so that people can gain direct information on the progress, share their concerns, and ask relevant questions,” says Marius Narmontas, RB Rail AS Branch manager in Lithuania.

Presentation on the design solutions for the Rail Baltica section “Berčiūnai – Joniškėlis” will be available to everybody and broadcasted online on 30 June 4 p.m. in MS Teams site here: https://bit.ly/3gLKg2q
