2021 is the European Year of Rail. During this time, the railway industry is in the spotlight for its incredible contribution to the safe, green, and comfortable transportation of people and goods: 

• Rail is green: electrified rail emits far less CO2 than equivalent travel by road or air. 
• Rail is comfortable: make the train your mobile office or just enjoy the view – and leave stressful journeys behind.  
• Rail is safe: it is the safest land transport mode with the lowest incidence of fatal accidents.  

Rail Baltica high-speed train will be the first fully electrified train that connects the Baltic States to the rest of Europe, so we thought it is time to show how it could look like.   

This is a concept train made by Rail Baltica experts that illustrate the benefits of the high-speed train. Train visualisations are based on a general model train and allow everyone to imagine the future.  

The images are illustrative and do not prejudge the solution for any rolling stock to be used on Rail Baltica infrastructure in the future.

Sun, sea, and sand are reflected in the colour scheme of the model train. 

The train will be powered by renewable energy for the entire length of the main line and will provide an alternative to road and air transport in the Baltic States.

STANDARD CLASS

Carriages:  Each train is envisaged to consist of 8 carriages with approximately 70 seats per carriage in standard class. 

Services: WIFI services, USB slots, charger points, and screens with updated information on the travel route will be available to all the passengers. To make the journey more enjoyable, each carriage is envisaged to have individual light and ventilation systems.  

FIRST CLASS

Carriages: Like the airlines, the first class has a higher level of comforts such as more personal space with fewer people per carriage and extra legroom.  

Services: A special area for business travellers provides teleconferencing facilities such as a meeting room and presentation screen.  

CAFE

A cafeteria located between the standard and business class is envisaged to be available to all the passengers serving hot drinks and snacks throughout the journey.

LUGGAGE & HOBBIES 

We envisage having a special area for bicycle and baggage storage. Also, passengers should have an option to check in their luggage for the connections with the airports.  

MAKING RAIL ACCESSIBLE

Rail Baltica high-speed trains will have dedicated spaces allowing wheelchair access for disabled passengers and priority seats for older passengers.

Baby on board? No problem, each restroom will be equipped with a baby changing table.

PETS

A special place for pets is planned for Rail Baltica passengers - they will be allowed to travel with the owners on every leg of the journey.

SAFETY

Rail Baltica is the first high-speed railway line in the Baltic States, hence safety measures are especially important. The train will be equipped with a fire safety system (smoke detection, fire extinguishing), video surveillance system, driver's vigilance system as well as emergency button in order to get in touch with the train attendant.

The train design will be done according to the latest ergonomic and comfort standards.

It is important to note that for passenger safety reasons, all passengers will need to have valid seat reservations as standing passengers are not allowed in high-speed trains. However, since the regional trains will not travel at such a high speed, standing passengers will be allowed.
