The Master design of Rail Baltica Riga Central station project is completed
General partnership of constructors BERERIX has completed the Master Design of Rail Baltica Riga Central station project. It means that 35% of design works has been completed as well as definition of the design requirements. In June 2020 the client “Eiropas Dzelzceļa Līnijas” and quality supervisors “Egis-Deutche Bahn” has started the evaluation of the Master Design.
“BERERIX engineers and designers, in very short and intensive period of work in cooperation with RB Rail, Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas and Latvijas Dzelzceļš, created the new solutions for the project design that will have an immense impact on safety and capacity of the “Rail Baltica” Riga Central Station in the future. We have adopted our work plan to fit in the time scale and complete the project by summer 2025,” remarked Nic de Roeck, the leader of the supervisory board of BERERIX.
First preparatory works and construction works will start already in autumn of 2020. BERERIX team will continue design work and design approval activities until Spring 2021 when the main construction activities start.

The submitted Master design includes a number of ambitious changes to significantly improve the functionality and security of the new station. The most significant changes involve a 4 European gauge railway track design to serve Rail Baltica international and airport shuttle connections as well as intercity and suburb connections. The new Master design includes increased safety norms of the Station as an important civil infrastructure object. Master design also defines the Air-To-Rail solution or baggage transit lanes, which provide the possibility to safely deliver luggage from the Airport to the Station and vice versa without interaction of passengers. The construction plan has also been adjusted accordingly so that it does not deviate from the original schedule.
During the last few months BERERIX designers have intensively worked on providing several solutions and alternatives for crucial issues on the city’s agenda, such as pedestrian flow, bicycle traffic, multimodal traffic organisation, utilities, etc. Due to the wide experience the BERERIX team has, it is possible to provide all solutions precisely and in a timely manner, maintaining eligibility for EU requirements and cost reimbursement policy. During the COVID-19 pandemic the team has organised distance work according to all the regulations and guidelines, at the same time minimising the impact on schedule for the Master Design submittal.
